Snorkelling in Barbados

Whilst in Barbados we had the opportunity to go snorkelling on some of the many natural and man made reefs around the island. Some of which were old boats sank on purpose to create such a reef and therefore providing the underwater life with a head start and safe areas for snorkelling. But not only are these places full of fish but around the island there are a huge number of turtles. And having never seen a turtle before it was just to much of a draw towards the coast.

So we booked a few snorkelling tours around Bridgetown which took us to different parts of the island on the east and west side. And we weren't disappointed! Not only did the wrecks have numerous fish of every description but the turtles were very curious, mainly because the guides gave them fish scraps which they loved but also checking you out. And it's amazing how agile they are underwater. And the shear size of them was quite surprising with some around a metre long!

It's amazing how you can get a special bond with a creature from just swimming along side it! I am definitely a turtle fan from now on and will take advantage of every opportunity to go and see them in their natural habitat.

Well worth seeing for yourself and protecting for the future!
