Walking a long distance path can be a serious undertaking but also a very rewarding one! Routes are spread far and wide across the UK and are often linked with a writer, poet or industrial story, which gave it fame originally.
Walking a route like this can take a day, a week or longer and can be a real challenge, but it's also a great way to spend time with friends and family as you undertake your adventure together. Often you will pass through secluded spots, walk a range of terrains, experience a range of weather, meet other hardy travellers and generally finish tired, but happy inside!
Logistics are normally the biggest issue when taking on a long distance route, but with more companies offering a shuttle service for your luggage and organising your accommodation in advance there is no need to struggle with heavy rucksacs, unless you want to do it unaided of course. The following links are full of information on various routes, with helpful information on terrain, maps and accommodation.
